Today’s hair tutorial is how to do a french twist updo with a french pin. It takes less than 60 seconds to create. This french roll hairstyle is a perfect long hair hairstyle and medium hair hairstyle. This easy french pin updo is elegant, secure, and surprisingly simple once you know the steps. And the beauty of the french pin makes it suitable for weddings, dressing up for special occasions, or just wanting to try a new hairstyle. This french twist hairstyle is secured with a french pin, (also called a hair fork), but you can use bobby pins, a hair stick, or even a claw clip if you prefer.

This look was inspired by my previous french twist hairstyle which is secured with french pins, watch below:

How to do a French twist with long hair (using a French pin):

  1. Gather all your hair and hold it in your right hand at the nape of your neck. This is the starting point for your twist.
  2. With your left hand, place your middle and index fingers just to the right of your ponytail, pointing downward – this helps guide the twist shape.
  3. Wrap your ponytail to the right, around your fingers.
  4. Twist your fingers one full turn to the left as you bring them upward toward the crown of your head. If your ends are long, twist again to help shorten them. Gently press the twist against your head to hold it in place.
  5. Take the tips of your French pin (or hair fork) and insert them just to the right of your fingers.
  6. Push the pin through the twist and toward your scalp — this helps secure the updo from the inside.
  7. Flip the pin to the right and slide it back in toward the left, locking your French twist securely in place.
  8. If needed, twist and tuck any loose ends underneath for a clean finish.
