Today’s how to hair tutorial is an easy half up half down hairstyle perfect for weddings, prom, bridesmaids, or any special occasion. This look works beautifully on long hair and medium hair, and I’ll also show you how to recreate it with clip-in hair extensions if you have short or thin hair.
Half up half down hairstyles are one of the most flattering and versatile formal hairstyles especially for fine hair because you can instantly add volume, fullness, and hold in the right places.
Like always, I’m using @LuxyHair‘s Seamless Clip-In Extensions (code AGABOURY) to save. They’ve been my go-to for over a decade because they lay flat, blend beautifully, and add natural-looking volume and shine. If you’ve ever struggled with extensions showing, slipping, or not blending with shorter hair, I walk you through exactly how I place them and why.
How To Recreate This Half Up Half Down Hairstyle
- Gather and smooth the top section of your hair and secure it with a small elastic.
- Gently pinch and pull at the crown for soft volume.
- Section off the left side from your part to mid ear, bringing it behind the ear and smoothing it back.
- Twist once away from your face and pin just to the right of the elastic.
- Repeat on the right side and pin it underneath the first twist.
- Tame flyaways with hairspray, and finish with your favourite hair oil for shine.
