Today’s simple hairstyle tutorial is how to do an easy updo for medium to long hair. It’s one of my favourites because it always turns out beautifully and can be recreated in just a few minutes.
If you’ve been searching for wedding guest hairstyles, wedding hairstyles, or prom hairstyles, you’ll love this elegant quick updo. I’m often asked how to make updos look fuller – especially if you have fine, thin, or short hair. You can absolutely recreate this style without extensions, but this is my go-to way to add fullness for updos using clip-in extensions, and in this tutorial I’m showing exactly how I recreate this look with the Luxy Hair Seamless Collection.
I’m wearing Luxy Hair’s Seamless Collection in Bronde Balayage – they blend beautifully and feel comfortable in any hairstyle.

How To Recreate This Easy Updo
- Start by pulling out any face framing pieces for a softer look.
- Smooth your hair back, and gather your hair into a ponytail at ear height.
- Hold the ponytail with your left hand, and with your right hand, thumb on top, grab the ponytail from underneath.
- Tightly twist the ponytail away from your face two times, and bring it to the top of your head.
- Tighten the twist with your left hand by pushing and tucking it underneath itself.
- Secure the twist with bobby pins or a DIY bungee and additional french pins for extra hold.
- Flip the ends underneath the right side to form a bun and fan it out slightly, and secure.
- Smooth the ends and divide them into two sections, a top and bottom.
- Take just the top section, bring it across the twist to the left, fold it under, and pin the fold into place.
