- Start by sectioning your hair just above ear height, and start with your four-clip weft.
- Add the second four-clip weft directly on top of the first weft.
- Section another layer of hair and clip in your second four-clip weft. This will add more volume and length, creating a fuller look.
- Section your hair at temple height, and clip in the first three-clip weft.
- Add the second three-clip weft directly on top of your first three-clip weft.
- Clip in the two-clip wefts on either side of your head. This will help fill in the sides, giving the braid a blended and voluminous look.
Step 2: How To Braid Your Own Hair With Extensions
- Trace an inch back from your hairline, down and around your crown. Completely section this off and tightly secure it with a clear hair elastic.
- Pinch and pull on the hair around your crown to add volume. The more formal the occasion, the more volume you might want to create.
- Trace about an inch down from the previous section to the back of your head, gathering the hair underneath your ponytail. Section it into two parts—a left and a right.
- Join the two sections together over your previous ponytail and tightly secure them with a clear elastic.
- Pinch your elastic with one hand, and with the other, begin pinching and pulling the hair above your elastic to create more volume and that beautiful heart shape.
- Trace another inch down, leaving some hair down at your nape, and gather the first ponytail as well, that’s underneath our previous one. Section it off into two, join them together over the previous ponytail, and secure with a clear elastic.
- Just like before, pinch and pull the hair above your elastic to create the heart shape. Because you’ve gathered the first ponytail, it will create a pull-through braid that really showcases the heart shape.
- Gather all remaining hair at your neck, section it off into two, and join them together over the previous ponytail. Ensure your top section is roughly the same size as the bottom.
- Tightly secure with a clear elastic, then pinch and pull to create the heart shape.
- Continue this pattern all the way down, dividing the lower ponytail into two parts and securing it above the previous ponytail. Pinch and pull for volume as you go.
- Throwing the braid over your shoulder can make it easier on your arms as you work.
- Make any adjustments to ensure the braid looks full and even.
