These styles are extra special to me because they were inspired by my mom. She’s the one who taught me how to braid my hair, it was always braids before bed and soft heatless waves in the morning. That’s still my favorite base for effortless summer hair.

Step-by-Step: Easy Summer Hairstyles
How to Down Style With Braids
This is one of my favourite easy summer hairstyles when I want to leave my hair down but add something special. It’s perfect for long hair, especially with natural texture or heatless waves.
This look is inspired by how my mom used to style my hair for school. Starting with two Dutch braids at night, then gently undoing them in the morning for soft waves and a beautiful, lived-in texture. The braids leave behind a subtle, fairy like look that feels effortless, romantic, and perfect for warm-weather days.
- Take a small 2 to 3-inch section just behind the front of your hairline and begin a simple three-strand braid, crossing the outside sections underneath the middle.
- Keep the sections close together as you braid.
- Once the braids meet, gently pull your braid apart to create an opening, and flip your lower braid up and pull it all the way through.
- Then leave some hair in-between and create another 3 strand braid.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Gently pull each braid apart to add volume.
- To finish, I tucked in a few flowers, wild flowers, even dandelions would look beautiful.
How to French Braid Hairstyle
This easy French braid hairstyle is one of my go-to looks for summer. It keeps your hair off your face while still feeling soft and romantic – perfect for everything from gardening to a wedding guest hairstyle. It’s a classic braid tutorial with a summery twist, adding wild flowers for a whimsical, garden-inspired touch. It’s an easy style that works beautifully for long hair, and the floral detail makes it feel a little extra, like something out of a fairy tale.
- Start by sectioning off the hair at your crown, then divide it into three equal pieces.
- Cross the right section over the middle, then the left over the new middle — passing each piece from one hand to the other.
- Now begin adding in hair – I let go of my right section, then, trace a small section from your part, add it into your right strand, making sure it’s completely sectioned off, and cross it over the middle.
- Then do the same on the left, I just let go, trace a small piece, join, section it off, and cross.
- Continue this pattern, adding small sections to your outer strands with each crossover. I added three on each side to keep the look soft, and romantic.
- Once you reach your neck, evenly divide the remaining hair into three sections, so your braid is even all the way down.
- Then just continue with a simple three-strand braid and secure it with a clear elastic. 8. To finish, I tucked in a few flowers again.
How to Easy Updo / Low Bun
This easy low bun is my favourite updo for summer – quick to create, but it looks romantic, effortless, and put together. It’s perfect for long hair, especially when you want to keep it off your neck on warm days. I love wearing this for day to day, but it also works beautifully as an elegant wedding guest hairstyle or for special events like prom. It’s an updo hairstyle that looks more complicated than it is, that you can do in under a minute. If you’re looking for an effortless but polished summer hairstyle, this low bun is a go-to.
- Start by gathering your hair into a low ponytail and secure it with a hair tie, but only wrap it twice so you have one wrap left.
- Then, gently loosen the hair around your crown by pulling upward, to give this style that effortless, lived-in look.
- Now, with your right hand, slide your index finger and thumb through the top of your elastic – almost like a pincher, with your thumb underneath and your pointer on top.
- Twist your ponytail two times away from your face, then bring it upward, and loop it around your index finger to the left.
- Pinch your ponytail with that same right hand, and pull it partway through the elastic to create a bun.
- You can leave the ends out, or do what I like to do, gently pull them down and around to the left, tucking them underneath the elastic.
- And if any ends fall out, let them, it adds to that undone, effortless feel.
- To soften the bun, I just gently tug on a few pieces, until I find one that loosens to create that whimsical look.
- Then, I place my flowers right over the top of the bun, sliding them in like a hair pin.
I hope these easy summer hairstyles give you a little hair inspiration. If you enjoyed this post, you might also love this 60 second updo tutorial for wedding season or my everyday heatless hair routine.
